Artes

The James Joyce Centre
No. 35 North Great George's Street was built in 1784 for Valentine Brown, the Earl of Kenmare, and is decorated with fine plasterwork by Michael Stapleton. The house was restored in the 1980s and opened as the James Joyce Centre in 1996, run by members of Joyce's sister's family.
The Guinness Library
The Library contains many translations of Joyce's works, volumes about Joyce and his work, and other books of interest to Joyceans. Visitors are welcome to browse the shelves, and to sit and read.
The Kenmare Room
This room is used for lectures and functions and has a small display of reproductions of Joyce family portraits.
Exhibitions
The Centre's permanent and temporary exhibitions interpret and illuminate various aspects of Joyce's life and work. The Joyce Centre is the new home to highlights from the National Library's 2004-2006 landmark James Joyce & Ulysses exhibition. Through interactive installations and three films, you may delve into the novel, its historical backdrop, its publishing controversies and learn more about Joyce's life.
The Centre also hosts International Joyce, an exhibition originally organised by the Cultural Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ireland. This panel-based exhibition provides a wonderful introduction to the life and works of James Joyce as well as his legacy. Highlights of our permanent displays include furniture from the apartment of Paul Léon, Joyce's friend and advisor, and the original front-door to No. 7 Eccles Street, Leopold Bloom's home in Ulysses.
